I was throw into ocean of thought about the cost for a wedding in my country, Nigeria. I’m sure if this survey is carried out in Nigeria, we will be alarmed at what we will find.
Recall a report stated young people in the UK are turning down wedding invitations because of cost. In a survey carried out, 31% of people in the survey revealed that they were in debt as a result of attending weddings. It is said that the average cost of attending a wedding in the UK is £391, that is about N174,000.
If people could jam into debts for attending a wedding, imagine what will happen to the Nigerian couple in a country where everyone wants to outdo the other.
I am not saying it is wrong to attend weddings or organise colourful wedding ceremonies, but ask yourself: “At what cost?” As a young person,
— Think investment. Don’t spend unnecessarily on frivolities.
— Know that you aren’t in a competition with anybody. Live within your means.
— Don’t go broke trying to look rich.
— Learn to say No. You mustn’t attend that party or get-together. That friend or family will surely understand.
So think on these things and have a splendid Monday.
